Then a little bit of absolute basic color grading in Premiere to finetune stuff. I also worked on my group's master lights, so I ended up researching a lot on color management and linear workflows for CG pipelines so our lights would eventually render out of Premiere properly and as intended (I think I kinda get it? Probably need more research though). For example, while Maya Software was used for the final render to save time, I had set up Arnold shaders and lights in my shot for a lighting workshop we had earlier this semester.Īnimation-wise, I got to tinker with using Animation Layers for more organization (the breathing and arm/leg shaking were in a separate layer so everything else’s keys were untouched in the baseLayer) writing Expressions for generating random channel values on specific frames (used for the arm/leg shake) and setting up Character Sets so all the channels I needed to animate were all in one node (made animating the spine and especially hair so much faster). There were so many new things I got to learn and try out for this project. Here’s my shot from our final group sequence in ANI 162~ This was a lot of fun to do, and I’m happy with the result. #artistsoninstagram #animatorsoninstagram #riggersoninstagram #studentart #sjsu #sjsuai #ani179 #shm #cgi #computergraphics #autodeskmaya #maya3d #python #scripting Original high-poly Warrior Woman by Francis Valadj But I guess the best part of learning Python is that it’s also used in other software (Blender, 3DS Max, Houdini, etc). Making custom tools and shortcuts are also fun. I can definitely say it has sped up and/or simplified some of my workflows for both rigging AND animation. I enjoy art, math and science, and I find that rigging has the perfect mix of the three that my brain craves.Īlongside rigging, I also learned scripting with Python! I’ve tinkered a little bit with MEL in the past, but Python unlocks so many more possibilities. I’ve always had a preference for 3D art, especially 3D animation, because of both its artistic and technical natures. Having finished the class, I feel like I have finally found my path. Here’s my final reel for my rigging class! It was a lot of fun. #artistsoninstagram #animatorsoninstagram #riggersoninstagram #studentart #studentanimation #sjsu #sjsuai #ani175 #shm #cgi #computergraphics #computeranimation #3danimation #autodeskmaya #maya3d #mayaanimation #mayahardwarerenderer #arnoldrenderer #dialogue #facialanimation #lipsync #malcolmrig #danarig #apollorig Though, the best part is always seeing an entire project come to life after rendering and compiling it.Īnyway, that marks the end of my 4th year. Figuring out the “afterimages” special effect I put in my shot was also a fun challenge. I got to rig the hover car, spaceship and Apollo’s hair. Weeeee here’s my final reel for ANI 175~ Had so much fun in this class, especially the final group sequence. #artistsoninstagram #animatorsoninstagram #studentart #studentanimation #sjsu #sjsuai #ani175 #shm #cgi #computeranimation #3danimation #autodeskmaya #maya3d #mayaanimation #arnoldrenderer #dialogue #facialanimation #lipsync #apollorig Seeing it in the school reel today felt… magical. The shot I’m most proud of so far, and the one that reassured me that all that hard work is actually paying off. That said, I just realized I never posted this shot from my final project in ANI 175 last semester by itself. A lot of things happened prior to college, and a part of me will always feel that where I am now is partially thanks to a lucky RNG roll. The fact that I’m in an animation program at all still feels like a dream to this day. And honestly, I don’t think it ever will. ![]() Every time someone asks me what it’s like to be in BFA / a graduating senior now, or what I feel about it, I always tell people that it hasn’t fully sunk in yet.
